The good kind of getting lost
A familiar path, a different pace. What happens when the destination stops being the point.
The trail was familiar enough that we almost chose somewhere else. We knew the bridge, the long bend, and the clearing where the light comes through. Familiarity can make a place feel finished. It rarely is.
Leave room for the unplanned
This time we walked without watching the clock. At the bridge we stopped to look at the water instead of crossing straight over. Fallen leaves turned slowly in a pool below the bank. It was a small thing, but it changed the pace of the whole morning.
A good walk does not always need a new place. Sometimes it needs a little more time.
Beyond the bend, a fallen branch had opened a view we had never noticed. The clearing was cooler than we remembered. We ate the sandwiches we had packed and stayed until the light moved.
A familiar path can still surprise you
We came back along the same route. No new distance record, no dramatic summit, no photograph that could explain the day. Just a few observations to keep. That felt like enough.
